Weekend Box Office: Avengers Tops Yet Again Ahead Of Newcomers

Disney/Marvel

After shattering multiple records last weekend, Avengers: Endgame yet again topped this week's box office with another huge weekend, holding the #1 spot over the new releases. The latest Avengers, dropped an estimated 59.2% this weekend with an estimated $145.80M bringing it's domestic total to $619M and the worldwide total to over $2B. The film now has earned over $2.18B worldwide, easily surpassing Infinity War and now jumping over Titanic to become the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. WOW. It's short of crazy to think it's made this amount of money within a matter of only 2 weeks. With this drop though, it does appear to be frontloaded so I'm not sure yet if this will be able to surpass Avatar or not worldwide, however I think it will have a chance to surpass it domestically. Current domestic prediction is now around $760M-$800M range (IW opened to $257M had a 55% second weekend drop and finished with $678M in comparison). Worldwide we could see this finishing somewhere between $2.3B-$2.4B. Still an insane number but with other blockbusters being released this month, it's not a for sure thing that this could beat Avatar just yet.

In 2nd place is the latest horror movie, The Intruder opening with an estimated $11M this weekend (Could get adjusted in the finals) playing at over 2,000 theaters. The budget for this is like $8M so it'll easily be a profit for Sony/STX.

In 3rd place we have comedy Long Shot opening with $10.02M. I guess this is an ok opening but we don't know the budget but I guess this number is fine however considering the lead actors/actresses in this, I expected a little better numbers. Expect this to finish around $20M-$30M domestic.

Uglydolls opened this weekend in 4th place. Why is this movie a thing again? Either way the film grossed a total of $8.51M this weekend on a $45M budget. Not sure if this thing will be profitable but either way this start is pretty soft. It's difficult to see how this will hold up but I'm guessing it'll make around $20M domestic which would not be that great considering it's budget and the amount of well known celebrities that were featured. I feel like the release date for this was bad, this would've been a better movie to release in August or some month where there wasn't so much competition.

Rounding out the Top 5 is Captain Marvel with $4.27M dropping 48% bringing it's estimate domestic total to $420M. This is probably due to the Endgame hype as it only lost 192 theaters this week. Currently we see this finishing in the high $420M range to possibly $430M. A very impressive box office performance and yet another win for Marvel.

So Endgame won yet another weekend with a huge hold over all the new releases, managing to now become the 2nd grossing film worldwide. Next weekend we have the release of Detective Pikachu which might challenge Endgame for the #1 spot and many other big blockbuster releases heading towards us this month. The question is how will Endgame hold against these new anticipated releases?

Check back next weekend for our rundown for Detective Pikachu VS Endgame
